THE HEART OF THE THREE DAY DIET MENU

Diuretics are at the heart of the Three Day Diet eating plan. At every meal, you should consumer coffee, tea, or water. In addition, you should drink four, eight-ounce glasses of water each day. To counterbalance the potential potassium loss that can accompany the diuretic effect of the Three Day Diet, the Three Day Diet menu incorporates bananas and broccoli, both of which are rich in potassium. The remainder of the Three Day Diet menu consists of low-fat proteins, such as tuna, lean meat, and eggs; light carbohydrates, such as toast and saltine crackers; and fats, such as vanilla ice cream and peanut butter. Rounding out the menu is a healthy dose of fruits, such as apples, grapefruit, and melon; and vegetables, such as carrots and cauliflower.

Many of the foods on the Three Day Diet menu are those that require the body to expend calories in order to digest them. Cabbage, hard boiled eggs, carrots, and grapefruit, for example, require more from your body than, say, peaches and peas. It's important to note that, to counterbalance the severe calorie restriction of the Three Day Diet, the Three Day Diet menu builds in foods that will help you achieve satiety, or a feeling of fullness. Foods that are high in fat typically trigger the satiety signal in the brain, so Three Day Diet menu items like peanut butter and vanilla ice cream fit the bill.

In the Three Day Diet menu, snacking is off limits. In order for the diet to succeed, you must eat three meals each day, but only the portions and foods that are outlined in the Three Day Diet menu. Dieters report that, when they have deviated from the Three Day Diet menu, they have experienced much less success with the diet.

Many dieters question whether or not there are any “free” foods on the Three Day Diet menu. Dieters can use a sugar substitute (such as Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda) to sweeten their black coffee or tea. They can also use pepper, vinegar, lemon, and herbs. On the other hand, dieters should avoid catsup, which has a high sugar content. In addition, those who are following the Three Day Diet menu should avoid using too much extra salt, as this could offset the diuretic effect of the diet.

THE THREE DAY DIET MENU RULES

There are a number of rules you need to follow when implementing the Three Day Diet menu:

  • Drink at least four glasses of water each day, in addition to the liquid consumed with meals
  • Avoid any kind of snacking between meals, even low- or no-calorie foods
  • Do not add any fats – such as butter or mayonnaise – to the foods you cook and eat
  • Use salt in moderation, if at all
  • Avoid seasonings and condiments that contain sugar, such as catsup
  • Use sugar substitutes, such as Sweet N Low, Equal, and Splenda, when necessary
  • Unless you regularly go on the Three Day Diet, do not substitute items in the Three Day Diet Menu
  • Keep your consumption of diet sodas to a minimum, as many have a high sodium content

THE THREE DAY DIET MENU PLAN

Following is the Three Day Diet menu plan:

  • Day One Breakfast: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 1/2 cup grapefruit or grapefruit juice; 1 slice of whole wheat or white dry toast with 1 T. peanut butter
  • Day One Lunch: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda);1/2 cup water-packed tuna; 1 slice of whole wheat or white dry toast
  • Day One Dinner: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 3 ounces of any type of lean meat; 1 cup steamed green beans; 1 cup raw or steamed carrots; 1 medium apple; 1 cup vanilla ice cream
  • Day Two Breakfast: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 1 egg (any style); 1 slice of whole wheat or white dry toast; 1 banana
  • Day Two Lunch: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 1 cup cottage cheese or tuna; 5 saltine crackers
  • Day Two Dinner: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 2 beef hot dogs or frankfurters; 1/2 cup raw or steamed carrots; 1 cup raw or steamed broccoli or cabbage; 1 banana; 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
  • Day Three Breakfast: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 5 saltine crackers; 1 oz. (1 slice) cheddar cheese; 1 apple
  • Day Three Lunch: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 1 hard boiled egg; 1 slice of whole wheat or white dry toast
  • Day Three Dinner: Coffee, tea, or water (coffee and tea can be sweetened with Sweet N Low, Equal, or Splenda); 1 cup water-packed tuna; 1 cup raw or steamed carrots; 1 cup raw or steamed cauliflower; 1 cup cubed melon; 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
